Sarah - Guatemala 2017
In December 2017 Sarah traveled to Antigua, Guatemala to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build for a family in need. According to the Central American Association for Housing (Asociación Centroamericana para la Vivienda - ACENVI), the housing deficit in Guatemala exceeds 1.6 million households, including inadequate, rented and overcrowded housing.
In addition, the need for basic services such as safe drinking water, toilet, electricity and safe stoves in rural areas is very high.
During her time in Guatemala, Sarah assisted a group of volunteers in building a home for a mother and her two sons. The work consisted of digging out the foundation and creating rebar for the structure of the home. The family was extremely excited to start a new chapter in their new home.
